Mr Robins does the Brits Proud at the British Open
27-05-2008
The 30th British Open took place at Quarry Park at the weekend.
Players came from Scandinavia, Holland, Germany, Belgium and across Britain to join in the fun and games.
Chris decided to stretch himself and play in the Open division for this event. After 2 holes he was the tournament leader, striking 2 birdies on the first two holes. It went steadily down hill from there... but he was the leader, if only for about 5 minutes!
Meanwhile Matt was playing better and was in the leading group in the afternoon on the Saturday. Then it went downhill for him...
Young gun Richard Murphy (Northumberland) played excellent golf at his first visit to QP. He got a place in the Am final and put good pressure on the leader, 17 year old 'Sanders' (Holland), and the prince of Quarry Park, Jessie Denney (USA). Richard finished 3rd - a great result for him and a bold step in the right direction to become a future champion, perhaps! Sanders was too good to catch this time for Jesse, but Jessie took 2nd spot in good spirit.
In the big boys division it was Finish Ville Pippe who stole the show with his tomahawk throws and consistent putting. The final was spectacular and Derek rallied well to get 3rd spot. Read more...
