Derek Robins Wins Frostbreaker
09-02-2009
Derek Robins wins the first British Disc Golf Association tour event of the year. Matt and Chris of Catch the Spirit start of the season well finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The weekend started of with an eventful journey for the CTS group to Beaminster, Dorset from Bristol - the 75 mile trip took 7.5 hours! The A358 was closed with snow for 4.5 hours and then dark snowy drive at 15mph the rest of the way. Good times were had, ever played frisbee under the M5 before?
After modification of the course due to the snow a really challenging but excellent 27 hole course was set out par 82.
Matt had a solid round of 84 on the saturday giving him a share of the overnight lead with Derek Robins. Chris opened with a 94 leaving him some work to do.
On Sunday Derek Robins, British No. 1, was his brilliantly steady best with a round of 81. Matt said, "with 6 holes to go I was 4 shots down, I had to attack to try and make birdies to make up the shots and the super tough course bit back and I ended up 7 down!"
Chris had a great round of 84 on Sunday that saw him over take 5 people to finish 3rd in the division. Ivan Bromage took 4th sport and Jesse Denny 5th.
The Advanced Am division saw a sudden death play-off between Neal Pickett and 16 year old James Luton. Neal won on the second hole. 3rd spot by 'Boss Brother' Rick Murphy, Pete Black 4th, Paul Holden 5th.
Good times were had by all and will get some photos up soon of the beautiful snow covered countryside!
Of course we made it back to Bristol in just over an hour!
