Disc Golf Leader Training Course

The Disc Golf Leader training course is ideal for teachers, young leaders, sports coaches and Disc Golfers looking to develop a player base and gain a Disc Golf coaching qualification. The content provides a foundation of skills, activities and material to deliver coaching programs to groups and individuals of all ages and abilities.

The Disc Golf Leader training course can be undertaken as a natural progression from the Introduction to Disc Sports course (optional). The Disc Golf Leader training course is a prerequisite qualification for the Level 1 Coaching Award. These courses have been developed by Catch the Spirit and are endorsed by the BDGA (British Disc Golf Association).

Practical Element (4 hours)

  • Develop skill and understanding in a broad repertoire of throws including putting, approaching, distance driving backhand and forehand, rollers and rescue shots, with key coaching points for each throw.
  • How to run inclusive and engaging introductory coaching sessions for groups of beginners using a range of fun games and activities to inspire participants and develop their skills.
  • Learn best practice on how to plan, set up and deliver sessions safely and efficiently, with creative hole design for indoor and outdoor spaces.
  • Use standardised Disc Golf challenges for competition and skills assessment.

Leadership in Action (2 hours)
Plan and deliver a total of 2 hours of Disc Golf Leadership in the following contexts:

  • Introductory Disc Golf Session with a group (60mins)
  • One-to-one coaching interventions (30mins)
  • Self-coaching (up to 30mins)

Log book provided to record session plans and evaluations to be submitted for assessment and certification.

Disc Golf Leader Training Course – The Facts

  • Disc Golf Activity Cards Resource Pack provided
  • This course has been running since 2010
  • Course duration: 4 hours (Practical)
  • Minimum number: 8, maximum: 16
  • Course fee £49 +vat per person
  • Disc Golf Leader Award certificate provided on approval of completed logbook.
  • Suitable outdoor space required. Additional indoor space desirable, but not essential
  • For school bookings the content can be tailored to the needs of Primary, Secondary and Special Schools.

Booking Information

Courses are usually put on for an organisation or local network with at least 6 people wanting to take part. We may then open the course up to other individuals in that region who have previously made a request with us to take the course.
