Game Variations
Here are a range of formats for playing a round of Disc Golf.
Strokeplay - The basic way of playing; count every shot you play over the round and the lowest score wins. Handicaps like in ball golf can be applied for competitive games between players of different abilities
Matchplay - You compete with another player to get the lowest score on a hole you then win, halve or lose the hole - the person winning the most holes over the round wins.
Great fun way of playing as sometimes you'll have to go for a shot for the halve although percentages say to lay up - you need it so go for it! Lots of 30m holeouts expected!
Handicaps are difficult to apply to this form of play try mulligan matchplay.
Mulligan matchplay - Mulligans are when you take your shot again without counting the first attempt.
Providing a number of mulligans instead of strokes between players of different abilities works better with matchplay in disc golf.
Only 1 mulligan per hole - must choose to play it within 30 seconds - can't wait to see other persons shot!
Stableford - If handicap ratings are applied score points as follows: Net bogey 1 point, net par 2 points, net birdie 3 points, etc.
Requires a course stroke index showing which holes are harder than others.
Doubles - Matchplay or strokeplay, great fun way of playing. Play in pairs, each player playing a shot then you pick which one was best and then both play from there. This can be modified by only allowing you to take one partners tee shot twice in a row. Not relying on a better player of the pair.
Great for good scores and quick play as you should never get in too much trouble!
Worst shot doubles is also fun the pair you a re playing against picks the worst shot of the two players.
Can be played again with not picking one persons drive twise in a row.
RIPT Cards for a social round. Available from our shop. Game to be played out on the course with cards such as:
