Forehand Throws
How to use the forehand technique for Disc Golf
Putting
Putting forehand is quite rare, the backhand is far more accurate, however, occasionally you will be hampered by your stance and obsticales so that it will be the best option.
Using a putter the technique is exactly the same as the forehand throw with a catch disc.
Approach
As the disc is spinning in the oppsite direction the forehand approach can prove very useful if you are approaching a basket;
- That is on a slope from right to left (less likely to roll)
- Requires a natural left to right hyzer
- A backhand throw is hampered by a difficult stance ( for example by a tree or bush)
Again the technique is very similar to throwing a catch disc as described in the ultimate and freestyle sections
Driving
Some players mainly drive forehand - potential for huge power especially for people with naturally good throwing arms, baseball players, cricketers, javelin throwers & tennis players.
A large amount of spin and turnover are put on the disc when thrown hard so very overatble discs are usually prefered, e.g Firebird, Monster or a Flick
Some important things to do...
- To make sure the palm faces upwards,
- The snap of your wrist is faster than you arm - more flick than throw
- Keep you elbow close to your body - helps keep the swing flat and not giving it to much arm.
The are huge benfits to throwing a good sidearm drive...
- Less effort required than backhand - often older, younger and less strong players can throw further sidearm
- Achieves natural hyzer to the the right - get around obsticles.
Driving is the only forehand throw in which your left foot is in front of your right as a run up is required.
