Spirit of the Game

No need for referees - just fair play and positive vibes man!

The central philosophy underpinning Disc Sports is the ‘Spirit of the Game’. It  encourages competitive play, but never at the expense of mutual respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play. So if disputes do arise, this notion can be reminded to players to help them shake off moments of frustration or anger to 'reframe' the sistuation in a positive and respectful way.

How to Catch the Spirit of the Game:

1)                   Value honesty & fairness

2)                   Respect self & others

3)                   Always throw to an alert & ready catcher

4)                   Know the rules & play within them

5)                   Switch from can’t do, to: can learn to do

6)                   You fail only when you quit. So be tenacious and believe in yourself

7)                   The relationship between all players is more important than winning

8)                   When communicating with other players:

                        First seek to understand,

                                       then seek to be understood

9)                   The responsibility for fair play rests on each and every individual player

10)                Aim to combine respect and competition in a positive way!

“The Spirit of the Game is running after the disc like it’s the thing you want the most in the entire world, laying out, and making the catch - it's such an awesome feeling.

Then, when you think it can't be any better, as you stand up in the end-zone, you see not only your team, but your opponents cheering and congratulating you...

It's calling a foul on yourself…

It's playing at the highest level your capable...
It's helping new players keep their forehands from flopping over...

It’s the ability to combine respect and competition in a positive way… and it's definitely a beautiful thing”.

Good values are easier caught than taught!
