Disc Sports Events
Festivals, leagues, tournaments and Disc Golf adventures for schools!
If you already use Disc Sports in your school and want to give the children some goals to work towards, we have some really good ideas for events you can put on, either independently (with involvement form local young leaders) and/or with direct input from us.
Disc Sports Adventure Days
Our Adventure Days involve us locating a suitable space, ideally within 20 or so miles from your school, then setting up a Disc Golf course for the day. We have plenty of portable targets and discs to set up an 18 hole course, plus we can facilitate other activities such as Discathon, Field Events and Ultimate. Please contact us for further details.
Mini Ultimate Tournaments
We often put on mini Ultimate tournaments for children at year 6 and above. In many cases the participants have as little as 1 hour coaching prior to the event. We have found that once the children have basic skills in throwing and catching, and understand the basic objectives and rules of Ultimate, it's a nice reward to celebrate with an inter-school mini tournament. This could simply be an after-school event lasting just 90 minutes or so. Events like this enables the kids to quickly figure out what it's all about and decide if they want to sign up for regular practice sessions and establishing a school Ultimate team.
Ultimate Leagues
Once you have at least 4 or 5 local schools with a dozen or so keen Frisbee'ers of the same age, you could then set up a small Ultimate league. Indoor Ultimate is great fun during the winter months and of course outdoor Ultimate is a superb activity from April through to October.
Disc Sports Festivals
Disc Sports Festivals are a great way of engaging the whole school or year group in a one amazing event. Because Disc Sports includes such a wide range of activities, there is literally something for everyone.
For primary schools a simple carousel format can be very effective. This also serves as a good platform to involve young leaders to develop their self confidence, esteem and communication skills. This proved very successful for a group of year 8 boys from West Gate College, Newcastle upon Tyne who went on to win a Living For Sport Award for the project. Read more
At Key Stages 3 & 4 there is potential for full Disc Sports festivals, with a similar format to the annual World Flying Disc Federation World Championships! A preliminary internal festival for each school could take place before a grand final for the best of the best from a cluster of secondary schools. Contact us for help with programming for such events.
