About Disc Sports

Frisbee or Disc?

The term 'Frisbee®' has become a universal term for the activity of playing throw and catch games with a flying disc and a Frisbee is used to refer to the object; a 'flying disc'. As you get more involved with 'Frisbee' or 'Disc Sports' however, you might find yourself saying "let's play some disc" and refer to it (the object) a 'disc' instead.

Frisbee is actually a registered trade mark of the Wham-o Corporation, so calling it a disc is more accurate anyway. The Frisbee situation is a bit like the Hoover - do you do the 'Hoovering' with a 'Hoover®'? or are you really doing the 'vacuum cleaning' with a 'vacuum cleaner'!? Whamo-o still make excellent Frisbees for recreational and freestyle play and for 30 years or so have been joined by several other manufacturers such as Discraft and Innova.

Disc Sports

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) recognises 7 official Disc Sports. This site introduces each of these disciplines, plus a couple of extra ones for good measure! Where appropriate, each activity includes useful links to the WFDF rules and information sheets, plus links to other good web-sites. Each of the two major Disc Sports; Ultimate and Disc Golf, have dedicated sections on the site called Play Ultimate and Go Disc Golf.

Whether you're an Ultimate player, a Disc Golfer, a casual summer-time Frisbee player or a total novice to the world of flying discs, we urge you to get on up and experience each of all the disc sports. By doing so you will enhance your hand-eye coordination, make new friends and get fit in the process!

Whether it's Ultimate, Disc Golf, Freestyle or all Disc Sports that capture you're imagination, Catch the Spirit is here to assist you to find your preferred styles of play and continually improve your performance. Let your journey begin!
