The Rizboss says…… WORK TOGETHER

November 13th, 2009

Thoughts from me today are based around a team effort. Disc golf may look like an individual sport but in many cases this isn’t true. On the British tour we have many exciting double acts. We have father’s and son’s, best friends, some golfers even go for a round with there dog. I guess here I’m promoting the idea of finding yourself an evenly matched partner for travelling to tournaments, practice rounds, talking disc matters, etc, but when you find yourself ready to tee off on the Saturday morning on your own, remember to keep your focus, whether you’re in the same group as your partner or not.

Your discin’ buddy can be the most useful ally in the world, someone to constantly challenge your skills, someone to pick you up after a bad round or maybe someone to caddy for you when you make those Sunday afternoon finals! Either way, you have a fantastic weekend of golf with a good friend. Now go fourth young frisbee’ers and find your SPIRITUAL GOLFIN’ BROTHER (…OR SISTER), look them in the eye and say: ‘Thank you my loyal Disc Golfin buddy, thank you.’

The Rizboss says - Finish the shot!

October 28th, 2009

Hey golfin’ guys n gals! Rizboss again. There are a lot of key factors when it comes to throwing a clean shot. Timing, balance, angle of release etc. But no matter how well you do all of these things, ‘finishing’ your shot is priority. I learnt this from the games very best, Nate Doss. I was lucky enough to play a round with him and I valued his ‘finish the shot’ tip more than anything.
After developing a good pre shot routine for every situation you might find yourself in, you are well on your way to becoming a consistent player. Positive thinking is again always a factor and if you want to keep that mental attitude throughout a round you must prove your planning by finishing that shot. Finish your putt by releasing the disc on one true plane but leave the hand out there to greet the basket. It’s the same scenario for your approaches and drives. As you just pull through over your lead leg, bringing the weight from the back foot to the front, let the disc rip from your fingers and remember to pull your body through the shot to accomplish the finish point. Disregard your trailing arm and simply enjoy the discs flight.

Always finish your shot on every throw in your round. Let the chain penetration, commence!
